Landmark Bike Shop 100 Years Young in Ontario California

One of the oldest bicycle shops in America, and possibly the oldest continuously owned by one family, Bumstead's Bicycles opened its doors in 1909. On the verge of closing some 20 years ago, Lloyd Bumstead, the fourth generation owner, changed career paths and decided to keep the shop in family hands. Now carrying the number one brand in American, Trek Bicycles, the bike shop has a full range of products to take care of everyone in the family.

The fifth generation, Garrison, puts in as many hours as he can while hitting the books at the local community college. He aspires to a teaching career, but the lure of continuing such a tradition may take hold of him or his sister, Katie-Rose, who at 17 has a show-stopping singing voice. Store mom, Nancy, does community outreach, working with the city and various charities to help Ontario be all that it can be.

Other brands carried include Oakley sunglasses, Trek clothing, Mirraco freecycle, Eastern BMX, Intense BMX, and FIT freestyle. Fixed Gear is now hot at Bumsteads. Garrison is setting up various races and events throughout 2009 for the fixie crowd. The number one selling category is currently cruisers with Nirve and 3G creating fun and excitement.

Nirve Beach Cruisers offer Hello Kittie, John Deere, Paul Frank, Barris Kustoms, Robert August, Drew Brophy, Sense Boardwear at Bumstead's BIcycles

There are quite a few brands of beach cruisers available in Southern California, and even more than one brand available at Bumstead's Bicycles in Ontario, California. But for pure glam, nothing compares to Nirve. Nirve has partnered with the following brands to create some of the slickest looks on the road today: Hello Kittie, John Deere, Paul Frank, Barris Kustoms, Robert August, Drew Brophy, Sense Boardwear. Owner Lloyd Bumstead give a closer look at this hot lineup.

Fixie BIkes, Fixed Gear, Single Speed, SE Draft Lite - See, Try, Buy at Bumstead's Bicycles, Ontario, California

Riding a track bike is to riding a traditional road bike as driving a Porche is to a Taurus. Quick, agile, stiff, tuned to the rider. Garrison Bumstead, 5th generation of Bumstead's Bicycles to bring exciting new ideas to cycling manages the track, fixed, gear, single speed part of the business. He is producing rides, drag races, relays, and other events for the crowd that enjoys the fixie experience and the hanging out together that goes with it.

In this video, Garrison does a few simple (ok, not that simple) stunts on the bike, explains some of the basics of fixed gear riding, and gives a short analysis of their best selling, entry level fixed gear bike, the SE Draft Lite.

Whether you have an old fixer-upper that you want to convert to fixed gear, need a built up bike, or want to build your own unique fixie from the frame up, Bumsteads is the place to get it done.
